UKUUG 2008 Spring Conference with added PostgreSQL
The 2008 UKUUG Spring conference is coming up soon (well, 31st March to 2nd April). It's focus is large scale systems admin, but some of the talks look appealing to a wider audience (e.g. anti-spam). The good news is that it's in Birmingham, which seems to be attracting a few more technical events lately :)
Interestingly, the UK PostgreSQL users are having their first conference at the ukuug event - (see here); so I've decided to sign up for this to see what I can find out about my favourite database - it's on the last day (2nd of April) and seems to have an interesting lineup of talks already.
On semi-related news, someone's trying to persuade me to organise a PHP conference in the region; I'm not quite sold on this yet, but the upcoming PHPConference in London may change my mind (or prompt someone else to do the hard work!)

mmmmm conference, yummy
I'm thinking that I'll probably be in attendance, not sure if I'll make all the days yet - that depends if I attend wearing a Bytemark shirt or not ;) Lots of the talks look pretty interesting and it's been a while since I've done UKUUG, since LinuxWorld seems to have fallen through maybe this'll be a good weekend out?
except... look at the dates!
It's on Monday to Wednesday; so it's not really a 'weekend out' :)
woot!
.. talked it over with $employer and I'll be there on all the days, as we're sponsoring the event ;) Look out for me in the usual familiar black t-shirt, and we'll have to grab a drink / lunch / dinner at some stage and catch up.
Sure :)
I'm apparently/probably doing the signage, so will be getting in for free... once I do it.
Not just Large Systems!
The UKUUG Spring Conference has indeed had a focus on large scale systems in the past, but this year we're expanding the range of subjects. If you look at the Talk Abstracts you will see that there is a substantial content from the Perl and Python communities, as well as the PostgreSQL day. The large systems content is as strong as ever, but there's lots more besides.
