Today we saw Shrek 3 at the cinema in Rubery. We really enjoyed it - it was easily as good as the previous Shrek's with a good smattering of jokes, song lyrics and funny moments. It seems rare to see a trilogy that doesn't suck by film 2 or 3 - thankfully this didn't. However, if you do go to watch it, enter the theatre late, as the adverts preceding the film were extremely annoying and lasted forever (every other one seemed to be a car advert).
We went to see the new Bond last night, which we both enjoyed immensely. I might blog about it later, but what really annoyed me is itching to be blogged about.
The villain of the film is a slimy looking man, who is clearly supposed to be asthmatic. He has a reliever inhaler that he takes at various stages of the film, but as far as I (I've had asthma for most of my life, with some bad episodes for a few years while I lived in a house with cats, that I am very allergic to...) can tell, the poor old villain couldn't have got any good from it, because he barely breathed the damned stuff in!
On Friday, Kat went to an Inland revenue workshop. I had built up a list of tasks to do, and was all ready to go, when Darran posted a link to The Scene - needless to say I started watching it, and although the format of it was a little awkward to start with (1/4 screen as a webcam, 3/4 as a desktop with small IRC windows in it etc), I eventually finished watching it yesterday.
I was very impressed with it, especially as it appears to be free, with no advertising etc. From the credits, it appears quite a few people were involved in it. The story was well written with plenty of twists and cliff hanger endings, and there were some technical bits done correctly (which makes a change).
I've just watched (the advantages of being ill :-/) the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice. Being fully prepared to absolutely hate it, I've been - in parts - pleasantly surprised.
The first part of the film gives a feeling of being very rushed. The story, which in the book builds slowly and at an even pace, felt a little muddled (and believe me, I know the story intimately) and hurried. Even the dialogue felt like it was rushed out in places. I understand that a lot of the feeling of pace comes from small but significant events happening in seemingly mundance circumstances - and this must make it difficult to cut events out entirely to focus on the "main" ones.
