Sleep?
We were warned (repeatedly and by everyone) that the first few weeks with Rowan would be really difficult. It seems they were right, some nights at least. Rowan is sleeping unreliably to say the least - but at this stage its to be expected. His current trick is to feed intermittently for hours and hours - the midwife says this is apparently quite normal (about 8 last night, 4 the night before). The night before last was actually good because he then proceeded to sleep for nearly 4 hours in one go. Last night however the poor mite seemed to have a blocked nose, so his already erratic feeding was disrupted by the fact that he couldn't latch on and breathe at the same time! It seems to have cleared up a bit this morning, and typically he's now sleeping like the proverbial whatever (baby definitely does not seem the right term!)
Thankfully David seems to be managing to sleep enough (I try to let him sleep the first part of the night at least to make sure he gets some deep sleep) and isn't suffering too much, so at least he can work during the day. I, on the other hand, feel great after the nights where I get 6 hours or more in decent stretches and dreadful following the bad ones!
We've managed to get out of the house a fair bit, with a walk with my NCT lot on Tuesday, and various trips into town (I was impressed with myself the first time I walked there and back), but we've had to spend plenty of time waiting around for the midwife - who comes at some point during the day (we never know when).
All in all, we're coping well enough, but are hopeful that Rowan will start settling a little better at night before too long, as I'm looking forward to having enough energy to be able to get into a routine that involves being out of the house regularly (and not, as at present, sitting in the lounge watching too much TV while feeding, much like when I was pregnant)
