It's part of a viral marketing campaign by Danish Bacon - they paid for the research and wrote the press releases for the journalists to cut and paste....
because it's dressed up as "science" it gets through into the media, when it's really nothing more than part of their publicity campaign.

well, that explains it quite well then.
Personally, all bacon in supermarkets sucks big time compared to the great stuff we buy from our local butchers ( this seems to be their best website/online mention )
