Settling down to a routine

We've officially been in our house for over a month, and it feels like forever - in a good way. Finally, with Xmas well and truly out of the way, David and I are trying to settle down to a routine, and I'm trying to put my resolutions into practice. In this case, they're only new year's resolutions because of the timing of when we moved - mostly they're things I'd been planning to do once we moved because they'd get easier.

Firstly, I've got a lot less dependence on David for getting around. Within Bromsgrove, I can walk anywhere I want to go within around half an hour, which is ok even for me. This means more trips to the gym, because when I wake up on Sunday and decide I want to go, I just can! I've settled down with the buses nicely, even if they're not very frequent (every hour, with the last one leaving Redditch at 5.45 (and I hate to get the last bus)) they are quick (only 15 minutes into Redditch) which means that with the walk, even on a bad day I'm door to door in less than an hour.

At the moment, I'm working fairly short days, partly due to the buses and partly because it gives me time to do a proper dinner (and often prepare the following day's lunch) without rushing around too much, and I can still do something else in the evening like going to the cinema, spending some quality time with the husband, or other things that will be discussed. Things are settling down well enough in the new office and with the post-xmas thing that I can do that, and I'm not feeling bogged down with work.

My other resolutions involved doing more with my life. To this end, there are 3 things currently being started.

Changing from weightwatchers. I'm definitely not giving up the weight loss push, but I'm feeling that I'm getting very little for my money from weightwatchers, as I hate the meetings so I'm changing to a weightloss program at the gym. This is a whole 5p a week more expensive, and involves a weigh in, session talking about food and an exercise session, which makes me try out new things. This fulfills my requirements as it is my weekly focus session, to remind me to stay on track. Its also nice that Helen - Jenny's mum = has also signed up, so I've got someone else to go with.

Bromsgrove Operatic Society. I've finally emailed to ask about this, and will be turning up to a rehearsal next week to see if they think I'm good enough to join in. I may also go back to having singing lessons if they have a decent teacher, as it is extremely relaxing. Singing in public is something I haven't done (with the exception of karaoke) since school, and my batch of singing lessons a couple of years ago just made me realise how much I enjoy it.

Helping my community: volunteer teaching. For a while I've been thinking about doing some sort of volunteer stuff. I had originally thought to join some sort of scouting group as a leader, but I decided (as I've said previously) that I'd be better using my real skills, so I'm starting teaching at North Bromsgrove High school on Monday afternoons from the end of January. (We've got the first date settled so I had better start preparing now)

My monday teaching is going to be combined with a day off, so my Mondays will now be spent doing the shopping, going to Aquafit with Jenny, then heading off to school to teach.

All in all, life is good. Really good. Now something will go wrong to punish me for saying that!

Bromsgrove Operatic Society

Bromsgrove Operatic Society know how to use email??? Blimey I thought they were still figuring out these new fangled stamps :)

I happen to know they are just beginning rehersals for their yearly show which will be "Oliver" complete with kids recruited from local schools, to be put on at the Artrix theatre (next to the college) in May/June time. However my dad is taking some time off from it so The musical director this year is the head of music from Bromsgrove school.

They're always crying out for new members so as long as you can sing vaguely you wont have a problem joining the chorus, they even tried to recruit me once (I have the musical talent of a dead dog). They audition for the soloist/bigger roles so if you want one of those being able to sing helps!

I have many happy memories of NBHS computer room and its Acorn A3000s if they're still around see if you can steal one for me ;)

Re: Acorns At NBHS

They threw them all out during my last year there - which was about five years back. :( They had a huge skip outside of the DT block, which they filled with the BBCs, Acorns and other stuff! I wanted to grab one, but alas, my bag was not big enough. I really wish I had grabbed one now...

There may have been a few hidden away, but none that I could see.

Kat; if you find two, get the second one for me... :P
