Work and graphics

We're still horribly busy on all fronts, but I've decided to try to keep up the work momentum - as I've felt terribly productive while we've been rushing around - without the silly (for us) late nights.

Today I've been doing something I'm not too good at - graphics stuff - as I got offered a free full-page advert (instead of the normal half) in our favourite linux magazine (we have to say that now we're writing for them ;-) )
I'm reasonably satisfied with what I came up with (after the best part of 6 hours work), but wish I could have had time, and the money to have it done properly. Hopefully though, the adverts that have been in for the last few months will be starting to be recognised, and with the extra detail in this one, we might actually get some calls.

Got a couple of sales prospects in the pipeline too, that may or may not emerge next week. We've also got some interesting ideas of how to break our training out of the normal box, which we will start to work on if we get a lull in work or if I manage to find an hour a day from somewhere :-) We'll wait and see on all fronts.

This evening after a very pleasant risotto I decided to tackle a bit of refactoring of a customer's code which is starting to get a bit unwieldy. I've been applying smarty to it. The individual bits of code look much neater, and its quite clear what is meant to be happening, but I'm starting to feel that the increase in interface that happens by adding another level of the application, without a defined api (although maybe I could comment one in and generate one) is possibly more confusing than the slightly messy code that was there before. It might be time to sit down and have a go at an actual design of the application as a whole now it is shaping up to be something more than a few search scripts thrown together. Its that old devil called sleep again, he's just telling me that I'm the tired one again... (I bet nobody who reads my blog will have any idea what song that is based on - in fact I don't even know who its by!)

Anyway, we've put a good couple of hours of work in - me on the code and David doing a bit more on the book - and now its time to have an hour to ourselves before we pass out exhausted in bed.
