Only 5 weeks to go. 40 days as I write this, and its getting really real now. Apart from feeling like I'm walking round with a bowling ball strapped to my front, and the normal sleep/indigestion/water retention stuff, I'm actually pretty perky.
Labour is becoming a bit of a preoccupation with me now though - as it could be as little as a couple of weeks before I have to go through this. I had a panic last week when I didn't have anything packed for the hospital (me or baby) and David was trying to wind me up about my braxton hicks being real labour! (I didn't really think so, but it made me worry about my readiness for it all!) I now seem to have everything collected, but have only packed the baby bag so far - enough to stop me panicking though.
My nesting seems to have manifested itself in a crochet habit, and I've nearly finished a cute yellow blanket for the little terror - to go in the pram or moses basket.
We're now really starting to think about what its going to be like to have an actual real-life baby in the house - one that's ours, and that we can't give back. Terrifying, but amazing really.
On the Xmas front, I'm happy to be going to have been invited to someone's house for the big day, so I don't have to worry about anything, apart from waddling the 5 mins to their house. Bliss!

as they said...
At the NCT class, the lady did say that men tend to think more about having a baby to play with (i.e. beyond labour), but the women tend to have a mental block with labour, and can't really see beyond it.

Julie says have an epidural!
Still I guess you have to focus on what you are getting out of the pain, a little horror!! It's all very exiting actually.
Also we found that vigorous backhelping by moi really helped ease the pain, that and cocodomol!
no to epidurals!
Kat's not keen on the idea of an epidural as it paralyses your lower back etc - so you can't stand up... once this happens, you have to lie down while in labour, which is the worst position... and can be the start of a slippery slope to having a c-section.
Obviously it helps from a pain point of view though!

Yeah there are issues with Epidural, we weren't going to have one but after 4 days labour and no sleep Julie had it just to allow her to get some shut-eye.
Also my recommendations for the Dad is take a book as there can be periods where you can't help much and hospitals can be pretty boring.
ah! 4 days :-(
A friend at home was only in labour for 3.5 hours ! 4 days does sound like a long time - how come they didn't cut her open?
David.

They didn't think she was in Labour till day 2! The contractions were quite irregular too, kept speeding up then slowing down. It was a crazy time!
